WHAT DO I BELIEVE? As your teacher, my responsibility is to provide useful skills and knowledge to meet your needs. I will use various motivational and academic techniques to involve you in the learning process; however, you are the most important ingredient in this process.
MATERIALS: In order to be successful in class each day, it is necessary to bring the proper materials. Everyday you will need to bring plenty of loose-leaf paper, pencils (no pens allowed!) and homework. If you would like to purchase a calculator, I recommend the TI-30.
WARM-UPS: The first ten minutes of class will be spent doing a warm-up activity. This will be a review of the previous day’s lesson. You will be asked to complete the activity by yourself. Warm-ups will count as part of your daily classwork grade.
HOMEWORK: Homework is essential to be successful in any math class. It allows you time to practice different math concepts and extend beyond what we did in class. You will be assigned homework Monday –Thursday. It is very important to do your homework regularly.
GRADING: Your quarter grade will come from two main areas. They are homework and classwork/informal assessments (35%) and formal tests/assessments (65%). Classwork/informal assessment grades will include warm-ups, class participation, in-class assignments, group work and projects. Tests will be given to assess your understanding of each major concept covered.
